There are many parents out there who are raising a child with special needs. There are many different kinds of special needs. Each case needs the proper attention of the loving parent. In my case, just when I thought I lost my total sanity with my ADHD son, he goes and turns 13. I have to say that raising a boy with this condition between the age of 5 to 10 has been quite the challenge.
Endless temper tantrums, broken furniture, calls from teachers, therapists, experimenting with different medications and other types of treatment. It has really done a number on my sanity. Now, as if that wasn’t enough, he turns into a teenager. Great, so I made it through the toddler years. What do I have to look forward to now? Well, so far it has been constant arguments, bad report cards, video game addictions, immaturity, more doctors and still more calls from teachers. Don’t get me wrong, we do have some very wonderful days where there is absolutely no question about our love for each other, but it is an everyday roller coaster ride.
